Welcome to the Digital Faroe Islands

The National Digitalisation Programme of the Faroe Islands, Digital Faroe Islands, was established in 2015 to digitalise services for citizens, businesses, and the public sector.

Led by the Ministry of Finance, Digital Faroe Islands is committed to optimizing and streamlining digital services across all sectors. Our goal is clear: to modernize welfare and elevate the quality of public services, driving competitiveness, growth, and production capacity in the Faroe Islands.

Thanks to secure solutions and well-designed user journeys, the Faroe Islands have become a modern, digital society where citizens can safely access personal information, use e-services, and communicate efficiently with governmental institutions, municipalities, and private companies.

Our digital solutions are widely used and trusted by the population. They ensure a seamless, secure, and user-friendly digital experience, making everyday interactions easier and more efficient.

Our work is divided key projects

  • Samleikin - An e-ID that consists of a Digital Identity and Signature

  • Vangin - A central digital self-service portal for citizens to access public services online.

  • Basic Data - Shared and standardized data sets that ensure consistency and efficiency across systems.

  • Heldin - Data Exchange Layer - A secure infrastructure for the exchange of data between institutions and systems.

  • Skjáttan - A digital wallet app with a driving licence and citizen card, with more digital cards to come.

Together, these initiatives are shaping a smarter, more connected Faroe Islands — where digital services are accessible, secure, and built to support everyone.
